WATCH: We need to hear from you to help shape our University values

11 Jun 2019

Colleagues are invited to share their experiences of working at our University to help uncover a single set of University values that will feature in our new strategic plan

In this video, Professor Sir Cary Cooper, 50th Anniversary Professor of Organisational Psychology and Health at ALLIANCE Manchester Business School, talks about the importance of getting involved. A transcript is also included below.

In the Our Future conversations colleagues across the University wanted to talk about ‘how we do things’.  You talked about systems and processes but you also talked about our culture and values and this idea of ‘Manchester-ness’ – that there is something distinctive about our city and University both now and in our past. As a direct response to your feedback we’re involving colleagues in uncovering a single set of University values which will be at the heart of our University’s new strategic plan in the Our People Our Values theme. We want everyone who works here to have the opportunity to get involved by sharing their stories and experiences in an anonymous online survey, it takes a few minutes to make your contribution.  You have until the end of July to take part.

Transcript of Professor Sir Cary Cooper’s video:

“Most organisations have mission statements, or value statements, so The University of Manchester is trying to collect up from all staff their views about the University. The good bits – what is a good day at work for you? And also, what isn’t a good day for you? We need to get both, we need to find out what you like about the University, the culture, and what you don’t like about it. It’s really important.

“In the end once we publish our values system, we have to get senior management to actively action the values system. So, it’s really important for all of us to understand the culture, get the values systems clear cut so we know what they are, and we have to hear from you to do that.”
