Communication is the key to a successful working life, but it’s by no means an easy skill to master.

Staff Learning and Development provides a range of resources to support everyone across the University in developing their communication skills.

Learning for all

Learning for all (found by clicking the lightbulb in Quick Links on StaffNet) is an online resource which provides details of the learning resources available to you and how to access them, including information on communication management. 

Learning and Development Toolkit 

Our Learning and Development Toolkit (accessible via the lightbulb in Quick Links on StaffNet) provides access to a host of podcasts, videos, resources and articles. They’re all in short, accessible formats and offer diverse content such as Ten Tips To Communicate With Impact.  

Lynda

We provide access to Lynda, the online learning platform from LinkedIn. It offers short courses on a range of topics including Building Professional Relationships and Communicating Across Cultures, and can be accessed online or via a smart device. Email StaffLD@manchester.ac.uk if you do not have access to Lynda.

Google Digital Garage 

Want to master the art of effective networking? The Google Digital Garage delivers free learning content in partnership with the Open University, which can be accessed online or in person at King Street, Manchester

TED Talks

TED is an online platform dedicated to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks. Discover The importance of a good conversation – and how to have it amongst many other motivational speeches.

Coaching

Coaching is a two-person conversation which allows you to explore your issues and identify ways to solve them yourself. We offer short courses on influencing with integrity, having difficult conversations and giving feedback effectively. Find out more about the coaching services offered at the University.
