It’s a bumper week with news about #GivingTuesday, Black Friday offers, ideas for Christmas, on-campus offers and a staff wellbeing prize draw!

On Tuesday 27 November, the world will celebrate #GivingTuesday, an international day to encourage people to consider giving time, money or support a worthwhile cause. Across the campus there will be plenty of opportunities to mark Giving Tuesday and discover new ways of giving including:

HeartStart CPR training - Barnes Wallis Building, 12.15-2.00pm
For students: Making a Difference Fair - Renold Building, 11.30am-2.30pm

On campus

Blackwell’s, our on-campus bookshop is offering 15% off to University staff between the 3rd-8th December! They have a great selection of books, gifts, Christmas cards and wrap. Download the offer for terms and conditions. Please remember to show your staff ID card! Blackwell’s also has an event coming up with Robin Ince at the International Anthony Burgess Foundation 27th November.  Tickets are only £3.00 but staff get a £1 discount if they use the code XUOMSTAFF when purchasing through Eventbrite

The Whitworth Art Gallery and Manchester Museum both offer 10% staff discount off their amazing range of gifts.

Food and drink

The Ducie Arms is Manchester's original 'hidden gem'. They are a traditional pub minutes from Oxford Road and are offering discounts on pre-ordered food, group bookings and event hire.


Super Break  offers discounts on their gift vouchers . The vouchers are available in denominations of £10, £25, £50 and £100. They a great way to let loved ones choose their own Super Break or experience. has a number of Black Friday deals including final reductions of 20% off for Christmas and New Year.

Entertainment and leisure

As another season ends at the main Merlin Theme Parks, you can still enjoy a great day out this Winter at the following attractions: Warwick Castle; LEGOLAND Discovery Centre, Birmingham; The Bear Grylls Adventure, NEC Birmingham;  LEGOLAND Discovery Centre, Manchester; The London Attractions;  The Blackpool Attractions; the Dungeons and SEA LIFE centres and Sanctuaries.

At Drayton Manor Magical Christmas has now opened for selected dates right up until Monday 31st December. Father Christmas is (understandably) only there only until 24th December and then it is park only from 27th - 31st December.  

It's all about a return to the wonderful wizarding world created by JK Rowling this week with the release of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.  Tickets have been selling fast so remember to use your Cinema Society membership to save up to 40% on your chosen cinema booking.
