Key elements of the £2.6m refurbishment include an extended gym floor with additional free weights stations and functional fitness area, a brand new spinning room for group exercise classes, refurbished changing rooms and a new look reception area designed to cut down on queues.

Head of Sport Vicky Ackerley said: “The Sugden Sports Centre is looking fantastic after the major refurbishment. It is currently the only University sport facility that has a spinning studio, and offers a vast array of exercise classes through the virtual fitness platform. Whether members of staff have visited the centre before or not, I really would urge everyone to go down and take a look. I’m sure they’ll be impressed!”

Steven Nutt from Matrix Fitness adds “Matrix Fitness were delighted to be part of the refurbishment at the Sugden Centre and couldn’t be happier with how the new facility looks. No matter what type of activity you like, the Sugden has it all and caters for all levels of fitness. It now boasts Virtual Spin and Exercise Classes, a huge Free Weights and Strength Area, Immersive Cardio and of course the new Functional Area adding to the 2 activity rooms and full class timetable the Centre runs. The Sugden Centre now has to be one of the best facilities; not only in Manchester but in the North of England.”

The Sugden Sports Centre, jointly owned by The University of Manchester and Manchester Metropolitan University,  is conveniently situated right in the centre of campus providing you with the ideal venue to exercise, keep fit and play sport before or after work or during your lunch break.  Memberships for staff start at £10.75 per month (via payroll deduction) for access to the gym and fitness classes. More information on this offer will be available shortly.

Staff of both Universities will get the opportunity to experience the new facility with free classes between 12-2pm and tours taking place on Tuesday, 11 and Thursday, 13 September.
