Blackboard unavailability this weekend

29 Nov 2017

Blackboard unavailable Sat 2 December 10.30pm until Sun 3 December 5pm

Blackboard

What’s happening

(Please note updated timings from previous notification.)

An essential upgrade to Blackboard must take place overnight on Saturday 2 December – Sunday 3 December.  Blackboard, and therefore also Turnitin, will be unavailable from 10.30pm on Saturday.  The work is scheduled to finish at 1pm on Sunday 3 December; however we are allowing up to 5pm for the work to complete, to allow us to thoroughly test the system and ensure it’s working as expected.

Why is this happening?

The work is necessary to ensure that BoxView, the replacement for Blackboard’s inline grading and feedback tool (Crocodoc), can be installed. We appreciate that the timing of the upgrade may cause inconvenience to students and staff as it is happening during term time and at short notice. Unfortunately it is not something which can be avoided.

Who will be affected?

All students and staff who use Blackboard.

What do you need to do?

Please review your teaching and assessment schedule to see if any activities which rely on Blackboard need to be rescheduled.

Please advise your students to download any resources they may need for study during the downtime.
