Professor Jill Rubery

Professor Jill Rubery has been appointed Director of the University’s new Work and Equalities Institute which will launch at Alliance Manchester Business School this September.

The new Institute will build upon the excellent track records and complementary expertise of the European Work and Employment Research Centre and the Fairness at Work Research Centre to develop new interdisciplinary approaches to addressing core policy and intellectual challenges across work and equalities.

Head of Alliance Manchester Business School, Professor Fiona Devine said: “Jill is excellently suited to lead our new high-profile Institute. She has undertaken a number of leadership roles at the School in the past and has been involved in a large number of research projects sponsored by the ESRC, the Equal Opportunities Commission, the Leverhulme Trust, the ILO and the European Commission amongst others.

“Jill’s highly respected research and publications have covered labour market regulation policies and the role of minimum wages; new forms of work and flexibility; women's employment and women's pay; employers' working-time policies; and international comparative labour market analyses.

“I look forward to updating you on the Institute’s progress in due course.”
