Appointment of Deputy President and Deputy Vice-Chancellor

08 Jun 2017

Professor Luke Georghiou has been appointed Deputy President and Deputy Vice-Chancellor

Professor Luke Georghiou

Luke is currently the University’s Vice-President for Research and Innovation and Professor of Science and Technology Policy and Management in the Manchester Institute of Innovation Research at the Alliance Manchester Business School.

Since 2010, he has been responsible for the University’s research strategy and its implementation, doctoral training, and for business engagement.  Luke will retain responsibility for business engagement and innovation in his new role.

He will take on the role in August, shortly before the current Deputy President and Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Colin Bailey leaves the University in September to become Principal of Queen Mary University of London.

As a consequence of Luke’s appointment, senior leadership roles have been reviewed and two senior positions will be advertised internally: Vice-President for Research and Vice-President for Social Responsibility.

The latter role will include responsibility for our cultural institutions - Manchester Museum, The Whitworth and Jodrell Bank Discovery Centre - and will also include strategic oversight of our cultural portfolio.
