Media relations colleague crowdfunds garden room for his partner, diagnosed with terminal cancer
Media Relations Officer Mike Addelman is crowdfunding a labour of love – building a garden room for his partner Sarah, who has been recently diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer and secondary tumours in her spine.
Sarah has spent the last three months in hospital but is now at home and, while in pain, is able to move around the ground floor of their home with a Zimmer frame.
Mike and Sarah have no downstairs bathroom or toilet, and have started a crowdfunding campaign to install a modest garden room, with space for a disabled wet room.
Mike said; “We’re almost halfway there with the funding.
“It will be a space where she'll be able to look out onto her treasured garden. Being able to sit, feeling like she’s in the garden and watching the birds, will give her a lot of pleasure.
“We don't know how long Sarah has to live, but we want to make her time as comfortable as possible.
“Thanks to everyone who has supported us – they have been amazing.”
Mike, who has been media relations officer across the University as well as communications manager for the British Election Study, has raised thousands for charity in various events including three marathons.
