This is an incredible amount and one that keeps growing!

The 10 most popular charities for your donations in the past year were:

  • Amnesty International
  • Dog’s Trust
  • Macmillan Cancer Support
  • Mind
  • NSPCC
  • Oxfam
  • RSPCA
  • Save the Children
  • Shelter

Alzheimer's Society Community Fundraiser for Greater Manchester, Steph Larkin, said: “We're delighted that The University of Manchester have raised money for us as part of their Give As You Earn scheme for staff. Alzheimer’s Society provides a wide range of support in Greater Manchester where nearly 30,000 people are estimated to be living with dementia. As a charity we rely on the generosity of organisations like Manchester University to help us continue our work providing vital local services to people living with dementia and their families.

"We are also grateful to the University who have shown their support by taking part in our Dementia Friends information sessions which is a brilliant social action movement and can be used to educate others about dementia, as well as create dementia friendly communities all over the UK."

More than 275 people gave regular or one-off donations in the past year. As a result, the University has received The Payroll Giving Bronze Award from HM Government and the Institute of Fundraising for the past two years. This recognises that over 1% of our staff are giving to good causes each year and more specifically the generosity of staff.

Our Give as you Earn scheme is popular because it allows you to give easily to any UK registered charity of your choice by automatic deductions from your monthly pay - and pay no tax on what you give.
