Lunchtime Strollers turn 10k culture vultures

05 Oct 2016

Seven of our Lunchtime Strollers walking group took part in a 10k “Culture Stroll” for Maggie’s Cancer Centres

Lunchtime Strollers

The group set off from Maggie’s Manchester (by The Christie Hospital) to the city centre last Friday.

The Culture Stroll kicked off at 6.30pm and included stops en route at an Indian community centre in Rusholme where delicious veggie food and a Bollywood dancing display was provided; the Whitworth Art Gallery for a life class; the Royal Northern College of Music where a concert was performed for all those taking part; a tour of the London Road fire station and ended at 11pm at Chetham's where walkers were able to explore the historic library and the displays of historical books.

The Lunchtime Strollers have raised £659 for Maggie's Cancer Centres, which is enough to pay for a Cancer Support Specialist to provide emotional, practical and social support to people with cancer and their family and friends.

With money raised earlier in the month for the Alzheimer’s Society, the Strollers have raised over £850 for charities in the past month!

Vanessa Cowan, the Lunchtime Strollers scheme co-ordinator said:  "We received a fantastic welcome at all the venues and are already looking forward to taking part next year. We would just like to thank all those who have supported our fundraising efforts.  Walking can make a difference in so many ways!”
