Safety officer is UK's best student in premier health and safety qualification

31 May 2016

Vicki Kelly, Safety and Risk Officer in the Faculty of Life Sciences, has been recognised as the best student achieving the NEBOSH National Diploma in the UK in 2015/16

Vicki, who will be a School Risk and Compliance Manager in the new Faculty of Biological, Medical and Health Sciences, started working towards the NEBOSH National Diploma for Occupational Health and Safety in 2014. This is the first UK vocational qualification developed specifically for health and safety professionals and a recommended qualification for all University safety advisers.

Vicki said "At every stage I’ve found I can translate the knowledge gained into making the area of the campus I work in safer. I sat the Workplace and Work Equipment Safety exams in December 2015 and was stunned to be notified that I’ve been awarded the NEBOSH Diploma best candidate award for 2015/16 for the candidate recognised as the best student in the UK."

Vicki will be presented with this award in June at Warwick University by Dame Judith Hackitt DBE, a Fellow of the Institution of Chemical Engineers and Chair of the Health and Safety Executive. Vicki added "Judith is someone whom I very much admire; I respect her pragmatic and strong leadership of the HSE and am very much looking forward to meeting her."
