Changes to staff and student ID numbers

16 Feb 2016

The SPOT IDs (Single Point Of Truth IDentifiers) have now been rolled over to 8 digits.

The SPOT ID is a unique number used to identify staff and students. It is more commonly known as the staff, student or person number and appears on University ID cards.

Some time ago, it was calculated that the SPOT ID number would reach the end of its 7 digit range around mid-March 2016 and automatically roll over to 8 digits.

As recently mentioned on StaffNet and in eUpdate, the SPOT ID project has been at work over the past 7 months to test and ensure that 8 digit SPOT IDs will be handled without issue by all of the 234 systems that use them. As this task is now complete, a controlled rollover to 8 digit SPOT IDs was completed on the morning of Monday 15 February. New numbers will now be issued sequentially beginning at 10050000.

If you encounter any difficulties with new students or staff who have been allocated an 8 digit SPOT ID, it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a problem associated with the SPOT ID, but it's worth letting us know, just in case.
