Living wage for catering staff

21 Jan 2016

The University of Manchester Conferences (UMC) Limited has decided to pay its staff a minimum of £8.25 per hour (the equivalent hourly rate to that currently recommended by the Living Wage Foundation) from 1 February 2016

The pay increase is one of a programme of actions planned within Catering Services (which includes FoodOnCampus, FoodInResidences and Chancellors Group), to develop and improve its financial performance and service quality.

The new rate is £1.33 per hour higher than the current minimum rate paid within UMC Ltd, and is £1.05 per hour more than the National Living Wage being introduced by the government from 1 April 2016 as a minimum rate of pay for all UK employees over 25 years old. UMC limited will pay £8.25 per hour rate to all staff, regardless of age.

Some existing staff will receive a salary increase from February 2016 as a result of this decision and will receive written notification of this in the next few days.
