The Confucius Institute language courses, January 2016

Discount available to University staff and students

The Confucius Institute’s popular evening language courses in Mandarin are now open for enrolment. Staff and students receive a discount so why not enrol today?

All classes run Monday to Thursday on South Campus and are taught by native speakers who have substantial teaching experience.

The courses are:

Beginners Conversational Chinese: Levels 1 and 2

  • Two hours a week, every Wednesday for 10 weeks from Wednesday, 20 January. 
  • Focuses on listening and speaking Mandarin only.
  • For Beginner Conversational Chinese 1, no previous knowledge of Mandarin is required.
  • £130 for staff and students (£6.50 per hour of class)

Confidence classes: Levels 3-7

  • Two hours a week for 10 weeks, Levels 3 and 4 every Wednesday, Levels 5 and 6 every Tuesday and Confidence 7 every Thursday from the week beginning 28 September 2015.
  • Focuses on listening and speaking Mandarin. Characters are gradually introduced but if students wish to take HSK exams, further study of characters will be needed.
  • £130 for staff and students (£6.50 per hour of class)

Steps classes: Levels 1-4

  • Four hours a week (two 2-hour classes on a Monday and Thursday) for 10 weeks. Starts on Monday, 18 January.
  • All four language skills covered: reading, writing, listening and speaking.
  • £240 for staff and students (£6 per hour of class)
