Cut-off date for umist.ac.uk or man.ac.uk email addresses

30 Sep 2015

On Wednesday 4 November, we will be decommissioning the man.ac.uk and umist.ac.uk email domains, which were replaced with the manchester.ac.uk domain several years ago.

This means that any email sent to an address ending in @man.ac.uk or @umist.ac.uk will not work, and the sender will receive an automatic response advising that the email address is not in use.

Anyone who actively uses or publishes their email address with either of these domains should update their records and ensure their contacts are aware they should use the email address ending in @manchester.ac.uk.

These legacy email domains are shown to be a target for large amounts of junk email, with 90% of emails on average more likely to be junk or malicious, rather than legitimate.

This does not affect @cs.man.ac.uk addresses used by The School of Computer Science.

Please contact the IT Support Centre if you need more assistance.

Note: This work has been rescheduled from its original date of Thursday 1 October.
