Chemistry staff remember lab technician with new rest room

03 Sep 2015

Staff from the School of Chemistry will gather at the opening of the Ross Rest Room, named in honour of laboratory technician Len Ross who sadly died prematurely last year.

The official opening is due to take place on Friday 11 September at 12pm when Head of School Richard Winpenny will make an address.  Len’s wife Sheila and their family are also due to attend.

The Ross Rest Room will be a place for relaxation and where staff from the School can take a break away from their desks or place of work, following feedback from the Staff Survey.

Previously an archive room, it has been decorated and refurbished and it’s hoped that School staff will add their own personal touches by bringing in pictures, photos, books and DVDs to share and by establishing a noticeboard.

Christine Martyniuk, Recruitment and Admissions Administrator, said: “We are still putting the finishing touches to the Ross Rest Room and once the room is opened, it will be a great opportunity for staff from all areas of the School to get to know each other better and make use of this new facility.  It’s also a lasting tribute to a popular staff member – there will be a photograph of Len and the technicians on the wall, and we’re delighted that Len’s family will be coming to the opening.”

Invitations have been sent out to all staff members within the School of Chemistry, but if you’d like to attend, please email Meriel Barham, meriel.barham@manchester.ac.uk.
