MBS staff give time and gain a sense of achievement

26 May 2015

As part of Give and Gain Day 2015, two groups of MBS staff helped local communities by volunteering for the day

Give and Gain Day, organised by business charity, Business in the Community (BITC), is the UK’s only national day which celebrates the power and potential of employee volunteering.

The PGR team undertook the task of improving the wildlife area at Chorlton Park; removing invasive Himalayan Balsam, constructing habitat piles and repairing fences. The team members were Ray Walmsley, Helen McManamon, Madonna Fyne, Thomas Blackburn, Paul Greenham, Mark Falzon and Claudia Spencer.

Whilst across the other side of the city, the Marketing, Communications and Recruitment department sent a team to overhaul Edge Lane Allotments in Openshaw. The allotments are run by an allotment society and their aim is to work towards sustainable living in the local community through cultivating the land and growing local fruit and veg.

The site is run by an enthusiastic team who were delighted to have help in regenerating the area, which will encourage the local community to get involved and start growing. Tasks involved tidying and preparing individual allotment plots ready for use, as well as improving the orchard area by laying new shale, weeding and digging over existing planters.
