Delivering Practical Education for Sustainable Development and Social Responsibility through Interdisciplinary Problem/Enquiry Based Learning

The theme of the session is the development of a range of course units starting with a single vision of interdisciplinarity for societal responsibility. It will start with some background and the development of the Royal Academy of Engineering-sponsored Enquiry Based Learning (EBL)& unit in Interdisciplinary Sustainable Development for final-year science and engineering students. It will show how the concept has morphed to units for other levels of higher education (Masters and Doctoral programmes), other disciplines and other institutions, at home and abroad.
The session will offer opportunities for community discussion on the theme explored. The speakers will be interested in getting the community’s response to a range of questions. These include the following:
- Should we looking at education for sustainable development in the wider context of CSR/global citizenship?
- Do EBL approaches work for everyone?
- Can “ePBL” reduce the burden on resource without also reducing the student learning?
