On #GivingTuesday share how you are making a difference on social media

28 Nov 2014

As a University that is committed to making a positive difference to society through all of our activities, we are excited to be taking part in the UK's Giving Tuesday campaign, on 2 December 2014

#unselfie

Established in the US in 2012, #GivingTuesday provides a charitable alternative to the start of the Christmas shopping season, a time for people to begin the festive season with a day of giving and making a commitment to charity.

Staff and students at the University already give generous time and support to a range of initiatives and there are a wide range of examples at our making a difference blog.

Two examples of initiatives staff are already supporting – and where we are encouraging more to get involved – are our volunteer School Governor Initiative and Workplace Giving.

If you use social media, we are inviting you to share how you are making a difference on #GivingTuesday, using #GivingTuesdayUOM and #GivingTuesday.

Take an #unselfie as follows:

  1. Download an #unselfie sheet
  2. Write on it the reason why you support your chosen charity, whether it’s through volunteering your time or donating money through Workplace Giving or another method of giving
  3. Take a selfie holding the card in front of your face
  4. Upload the photo to Twitter
