Blackboard downtime on Tuesday 4 November

On Tuesday 4 November, the Blackboard data centre in Amsterdam suffered a 'Distributed Denial of Service' Attack on their servers, which affected a number of Higher Education institutions, including ours.
This resulted in two periods where Blackboard was unavailable to staff and students. Blackboard put in measures to deal with the problem and the service is now back in operation.
As part of our ongoing relationship with Blackboard, we are currently working with them to better understand the nature of the incident and how we might mitigate against future attacks affecting the service.
