As we approach the start of the academic year, please remind staff in your respective areas to take particular care around data security in their communications with students
As well as the harm and distress to students that can result from these incidents, the University also risks incurring significant financial penalties and severe reputational damage from the loss or breach of any personal and/or sensitive data.
At this busy time of year, particular care should also be taken when using mailing lists such as Listserv, or when mailing spreadsheets to groups of students as additional information can be hidden from view but remain accessible.
