New common room for MHS staff

03 Jun 2014

As part of a number of developments that are taking place across the Faculty of MHS, in response to the Staff Survey, MHS Faculty Office staff are now able to take their coffee or lunch breaks in a newly opened common room within the Simon Building

Simon Building Common Room

Kay Day, Director of Faculty Operations said, “Survey feedback showed that Faculty office staff were unhappy at not having any dedicated space within Faculty buildings where they could take their breaks and that staff felt there was a real need for a common room. The space has been really well received across the Faculty and this is just one of a number of changes we are making to respond to the comments made by colleagues in the survey.”

The staff room, which adjoins an existing kitchen, was opened in February with a “grand opening” event featuring cakes, pastries and smoothies as well as tea and coffee. The room provides staff with a more relaxed environment with comfortable chairs, sofas and tables where they can enjoy their breaks away from their desks and catch up with friends and colleagues from other offices.

Staff based in the Stopford Building will also soon have their own space to relax during breaks. Work is currently being undertaken to refurbish a room located on the second floor of the building and it is anticipated that this will be completed over the summer.  The new common room will be finished in mix of styles to allow different types of use including a ‘quiet space’.
