University of Manchester Petroleum Geoscience Team win in Europe

The University of Manchester Team representing The Petroleum Geoscience MSc were the second top UK team for the second year running in a prestigious competition

Winning team

A team of five UoM students, enrolled in the Petroleum Geoscience MSc course specializing in Petroleum Exploration, have achieved an impressive second place in a prestigious European competition.

Awarded in Prague on 7 March, the team competed again 26 other top universities for the International Barrel Award which is organised annually by the American Association of Petroleum Geologists. 

This achievement cements a strong track record for the students who took 1st place in 2013 and had four top placements in the years prior.

A spokesperson for the team said, "After last year's victory, our team tried hard for a back-to-back win but were pipped at the post by the IFP.  We wish the IFP every success in the world finals in Houston."
