Nadia and Bella are walking to raise funds for St Ann's Hospice

20 Mar 2014

On Sunday, 23 March Bella the spaniel and her owner Nadia will be taking a sponsored walk around Heaton Park in Manchester to raise funds for a charity close to Nadia's heart

Nadia and Bella Out and About

St. Ann's Hospice cares for adults with life-threatening illnesses in Greater Manchester, at the same time supporting their families and carers.  An independent local charity, all care is provided free of charge to over 3,000 people each year which means they need to raise around £16,000 every day.

Nadia Abdelaal, a Senior Arabic Language Tutor in the School of Arts Languages and Cultures, nursed her parents in their declining years and this experience made her appreciate the importance not only of good quality care for those facing the end of their lives but also the support needed by those doing the caring.

To help raise funds for this worthy charity, Nadia will be taking her beautiful spaniel, Bella, on a sponsored dog walk on Sunday, 23 March at 11.30am in Heaton Park, Manchester.

Nadia said, "Bella loves meeting people and I am training her to be a PAT (Pets As Therapy) dog.  When she is fully trained she will visit hospices, hospitals and special needs schools to provide therapeutic visits and brighten up people's days.  This walk forms part of Bella's social responsibility and her contribution to the community!"
