University launches development programme for staff with a disability

27 Feb 2014

New opportunity in response to Staff Survey

Realising Your Potential

The University has launched its first development programme for members of staff who have a disability, Realising Your Potential.

This five-day programme is an opportunity for colleagues to learn techniques to take more control over their personal and professional lives; to develop resilience to thrive at work; to set and achieve personal goals; and develop as positive role models for others.

During the programme participants will:

  • Value and share their own experience and explore their identity;
  • Develop self-esteem, self-confidence, enhanced personal styles and ability to relate to others;
  • Set personal goals and gain benefit from one to one coaching
  • Develop assertive communication, active listening and project themselves;
  • Work effectively with others: using negotiation methods and handling expectations

Patrick Johnson, Head of Equality and Diversity, said: “We are delighted to be offering this opportunity to disabled staff. This is a direct response to feedback from the staff survey and the Disabled Staff Network at the University.”
