Patient input wanted for healthcare professionals training

05 Mar 2014

Manchester Academy for Healthcare Scientist Education (MAHSE) is seeking patient involvement in clinical science education programmes: sign up by Friday, 14 March

MAHSE
  • Do you want to influence how the future NHS workforce thinks about patient-centred care?
  • Do you want to share your story with NHS-trainees?
  • Are you passionate about patients having a voice within their healthcare service?

Patients are at the heart of everything the NHS does and therefore the experiences of patients are an important aspect of the training that new healthcare professionals receive. It is essential that our training programmes incorporate patient and public input and involvement (PPI) so that trainees can look at services and treatment from a patient point of view. Within Manchester, we provide the educational programme for the following specialisms: Blood Sciences; Cardiac, Critical Care, Vascular, Respiratory and Sleep Sciences; Cellular Sciences; Clinical Bioinformatics; Clinical Pharmaceutical Science; Neurosensory Sciences and Reconstructive Science.

MAHSE is seeking two patient representatives for each of its Programme Committees which meet in Manchester three to four times each year. These roles attract a nominal fee and all reasonable expenses will be paid.

You should apply if you:

  • Have an interest in one or more of the educational programmes provided in Manchester
  • Are able to communicate your experience as an NHS user
  • Have ideas as to how patients could be involved in an academic programme and provide assistance in carrying out any agreed plans for patient involvement
  • Would like to become a member of the MAHSE Patient Forum to share ideas with other patient representatives (the forum will be made up of all the public/patient representatives from each programme)

If you are interested in representing the patient experience:

The closing date for applications is Friday, 14 March 2014.
