Treat yourself to a relaxing pre-Christmas Wellbeing Day

As part of The University of Manchester Wellbeing programme, Counselling and Sport are offering this end-of-term day to relax and take stock on 7 December 2013 (11am-4pm) in the Wellbeing Rooms, Dover Street Building.

Wellbeing class

Have you had a challenging time recently? Will you be ready for a break and feeling as though you need a well deserved rest? These popular and well-received days are a great way to have a relaxing time and are an introduction to ways of maintaining wellbeing.

The day will include the following:

  • 10.30–11am Registration (meet and greet, book your massage and session times)
  • 15 minute massage of your choice of neck and shoulder / head and scalp/ face lift-up / foot massage
  • Mindfulness-based stress reduction and relaxation: an opportunity to learn specific stress management techniques based on “the relaxation response”, and mindfulness meditation
  • Relaxing yoga
  • Deep relaxation
  • Tai chi
  • A healthy light lunch and refreshments will be included

Deep Relaxation

An introduction to how to use your relaxation response for relief from anxiety and to help manage stress. Happily, we all have a resource that can help with stress - our body's relaxation response. This is an enjoyable session where you will experience feeling calm and relaxed.

Tai Chi Qigong

A practice of aligning breath, movement, and awareness. Qigong exercises have three components: a posture (whether moving or stationary) breathing techniques and mental focus which helps to cultivate a calm, relaxed state of mind.

Relaxing Yoga

The practice of your brings together the understanding of the body and the mind, being able to keep our breath at a steady pace relaxes the body and detaches the mind from the worries of the outside world, and what a busy modern outside world we have! So come and leave it all behind for an hour, let the healing effect of some relaxing yoga postures learning to keep the mind cool and collected and the body free from stress and tension.
