Cycling to work

Father’s Day

Don’t forget it’s Father’s Day this weekend and if you are looking for last-minute inspiration try the staff discounts pages or visit Perkz

Cyclists can now buy safety equipment and accessories only under the Cycle to Work scheme. Until now, safety equipment could be obtained only with the purchase of a bike, but this change means that there is no need to include a bike in your request. The minimum spend for safety equipment only requests is £100 and the maximum is £1,000.

You can only be in one scheme at a time. This means that if, for example, you are part-way through your initial Hire Period for a bike (the 12 month payable period), you are unable to purchase safety equipment (or another bike) until the current Hire Period has ended. If you are in an ‘Extended Use Agreement’ with Cyclescheme (as part of the End of Hire Process), you are able to obtain safety equipment by requesting another Certificate.

What safety equipment is allowed?

Permitted safety equipment includes:

  • Cycle helmets
  • Lights, including dynamo packs
  • Mirrors and mudguards to ensure riders visibility is not impaired
  • Panniers, luggage carriers and straps to allow luggage to be safely carried
  • Child safety seats
  • Locks and chains to ensure cycle can be safely secured
  • Pumps, puncture repair kits, cycle tool kits and tyre sealant to allow for minor repairs
  • Reflective clothing along with white front reflectors and spoke reflectors
