Watch out for telephone scam

Nuisance calls from supposed telesales executives are being received by academics.

There have been reports that some academic members of staff have received telephone calls in which they are invited to submit an article about their research interests for publication in a magazine. 

However, they are then informed that to publish the article will cost several thousand pounds. Staff members who have been contacted report that the sales pitch they have been subjected to is very aggressive.

If you receive one of these nuisance calls, you are advised not to enter into any discussion with the caller, but to inform them that all such enquiries must go through the Media Relations Office on 0161 275 8258.
