Tabley House seeks volunteers to act as room stewards and guides

03 Jun 2013

During National Volunteer Week (1-7 June), The Tabley House Collection Trust is looking for volunteers with a passion for antiques, architecture, paintings and local history.

The Tabley House Collection at Knutsford depends almost entirely on its team of 25 plus volunteers to ensure that it can open its doors to the public between April and October. However, recent job hunting success for a number of the volunteers, supported by the experience they have gained at Tabley House, means that the Collection is on the lookout for more help during National Volunteer Week (1–7 June).

Clare Pye, Chair of the Tabley House Collection Trust, which manages the museum and gallery on behalf of the University, says, “Our volunteers are the lifeblood of Tabley. They are passionate about the House and the Collection and love to spend time telling the Leicester family story to our visitors. Visitors are always leaving comments about the high standard and depth of knowledge of our room stewards and guides.

“Whilst the Trust is obviously delighted that volunteering at Tabley has provided such a positive stepping stone for a number of our volunteers, their success does mean that there are gaps in the rotas for the coming summer months and we would love to speak to anyone interested in finding out more about the opportunities on offer here at The Tabley House Collection.”

Joining The Tabley House Collection team provides an opportunity to socialise as well as find out about antiques, architecture, paintings and local history. New volunteers join in at their own pace, receive training and can choose dates to help which fit in with their other commitments, whether they can spare a regular number of hours a week or just a few hours a month.

For those volunteers looking to use their experience to develop their CVs, the Administration team do their best to offer voluntary jobs which match their aspirations.
