MC&E project: December update
16 Dec 2025
The Mitigating Circumstances & Extensions (MC&E) project is redesigning how students request mitigating circumstances and coursework extensions, aiming to create a clearer, more consistent and more accessible process across the University.
As we move towards design and build in early 2026, several areas of work have progressed this month.
The project has now onboarded EY as delivery partner, bringing experience from recent University-wide service improvement programmes. Over the past month, the team has completed a series of discovery walkthroughs with EY to explore how the future MC&E process will be delivered through ServiceNow, including early thinking on workflows, integrations and user journeys. These sessions have provided valuable early insight into requirements and opportunities, and feedback from colleagues involved has been positive.
Engagement has continued across the University, including a recent session with the Student Support Network to share the emerging project vision, early findings and anticipated benefits. This helped strengthen understanding of how MC&E affects different student groups and improve links across Schools and central teams.
Work with students is also expanding. First-year, postgraduate taught and Foundation Studies students have been invited to register for early-2026 focus groups, which will explore expectations and lived experiences of the current process. A new Postgraduate Research working group has also been established to shape a consistent approach for postgraduate researchers with taught components.
