Boosting student employability: Next networking event in January

28 Nov 2025

Alliance Manchester Business School recently hosted a successful networking and insights event for BSc Accounting students — and it highlighted just how valuable these opportunities are for student employability.

Imagine standing in front of a room full of employers and delivering your best two-minute pitch. For many students, that’s a nerve-wracking prospect — but at November’s networking and insights event, our BSc Accounting students didn’t just rise to the challenge, they shone.

This wasn’t just another careers session. It was a chance for students to step out of their comfort zones, practise real-world skills, and make meaningful connections with industry professionals. From elevator pitches to insider advice, the afternoon was packed with opportunities to learn and grow.

What students took away

Employers shared practical tips that go beyond the CV:

  • Be authentic – let your personality shine
  • Quality over quantity – tailor every application
  • Learn from setbacks – feedback is your friend
  • Confidence matters – know your strengths and show willingness to learn

One alumna summed it up perfectly: “All of you are so unique – let that shine.”

Why this matters

These events build confidence and help students develop the skills employers value most — communication, problem-solving, and professionalism. They also remind students that rejection isn’t failure; it’s part of the process.

Signpost students to the next session

The next networking and insights session takes place 10:30-12:30, Wednesday 21 January. Please:

  • Signpost students who are seeking internships, placements, or graduate roles
  • Share details in your communications and encourage attendance
  • If anyone is interested in taking part, they should email harry.sharples@manchester.ac.uk

Your support helps students take the next step toward their future careers.
