Thank you – 2025 NSS results highlight progress in FSE
11 Jul 2025
A message from the Interim Vice-President and Dean and Executive Director of Faculty Operations
The results of the 2025 National Student Survey (NSS), published on 9 July, show a clear and encouraging upward trend in student satisfaction across the Faculty of Science and Engineering – a testament to the collective efforts and dedication of our entire community.
In FSE, we’re pleased to report a 4.7% rise in overall satisfaction compared to 2024, alongside improvements across all key themes at Faculty and School level. Among the most notable areas of improvement across the Faculty are:
- Student voice: positivity rates in FSE increased by 8.6% to 78.1% (improvements were reported across the University with Humanities scoring 74.2% (an increase of 7.5%) and FBMH scoring 70.3% (an increase of 11.3%))
- Assessment and feedback: increased by 5.7%
- Organisation and management: increased by 8%
- Learning opportunities: increased by 5.3%
These improvements are not happenstance. Over the past year, many of you have contributed to the delivery of the NSS action plans with a clear focus on our priority areas: student voice and assessment and feedback. Your efforts have made a meaningful difference to our students’ learning experience and their sense of being listened to and valued.
We would like to acknowledge and thank all of our academic and professional services colleagues, as well as our student partners, whose contributions have driven these improvements. Your efforts are not only reflected in the numbers but, more importantly, in the experiences of our students as they graduate from the Faculty.
There is still work to do and further improvement remains a shared ambition, but this year’s results are a moment to pause, take stock and be proud of the progress we’ve made together.
With thanks and best wishes,
Professor Peter Green
