Find out what’s been happening in FSE this month to help us transition to Canvas

Migration of Semester 2 and Full Year Units, and Community spaces

The migration of Semester 2, Full Year and Community spaces has started and is due to complete over the next few weeks. We’ve noticed that in some instances, colleagues are not adhering to the required Canvas template. Please note that using the template is mandatory for all units, in line with the Canvas Course Standards. Guidance on these standards is available on the Getting Started with Canvas site as well as information on how to use the template. Units that do not follow the template will be flagged, and colleagues will be asked to make the necessary updates to ensure compliance. Thank you for your attention to this important aspect of maintaining consistency and quality across our learning spaces.

Hear from our Early Birds

We now have several completed units thanks to the Canvas Early Birds. These early adopters have shared their journey through a series of mini case studies, offering honest reflections on their experience with Canvas so far including how they approached using the new course unit template. Their insights offer a valuable perspective into what’s worked well and what they’ve learned along the way.

Canvas support available: bootcamps, clinics and 1:1s

This month, the eLearning team has been busy delivering a series of Departmental Canvas bootcamps. In addition, they’re running drop-in clinics for all staff who are rebuilding their course units in Canvas. Whether you have a specific query or are not sure where to begin, the clinics offer a supportive, flexible environment.

Upcoming clinic dates include 16, 24 and 30 July – full details can be found on the Getting Started with Canvas site. You can also book a virtual one-to-one session with a member of the eLearning team for tailored support.

New central Canvas support page for students

A central Canvas support page is now available to help students navigate the University’s new learning environment. It offers guidance on accessing course materials, submitting assignments, and making the transition from Blackboard. This is work in progress and will continue to be updated as new information and resources become available. This resource will be shared with FSE students through our usual communication channels.
