Disability Pride 2026: get involved!

11 May 2026

Join us in celebrating Disability Pride with colleagues and our community

The Disabled Staff Network (DSN) is delighted to invite colleagues across the University to take part in a series of activities celebrating Disability Pride in 2026. Disability Pride Month is a global celebration of disabled identities, culture and community, and a chance to recognise the diversity of experiences, challenge stigma, and highlight the activism and creativity that drive change. While nationally marked during July, we’re kicking off Disability Pride early this year with our inclusive and creative events open to all colleagues.

Get involved

Photography Competition: “In Focus”

Closing Date: Friday 15 May 2026

We’re inviting you to submit a single image that captures your lived experience of disability — whether as a disabled person, a carer, or a friend or family member. This could reflect everyday life, support and community, barriers or adjustments – or anything you feel is relevant and can be taken on a phone.

Submit your entry here by Friday 15 May for the chance to win a cash prize and have your photo showcased at our Disability Pride event (see below!).

Accessible Dance Performance with Propel Dance

Sign up and join us for a free accessible dance performance by Propel Dance, the UK’s first and only award‑winning professional wheelchair dance company.  The session will be followed by networking opportunities, afternoon tea, and announcement of the photography competition winners.

Accessibility

We are committed to making this event as inclusive as possible:

  • Fully wheelchair accessible venue
  • Dedicated quiet room available throughout
  • Music and lighting used during the workshop
  • Additional adjustments (including seating for rest breaks) can be requested when booking

Professor Nalin Thakkar, Vice-President for Social Responsibility:

“Disability Pride is an important opportunity for us to celebrate the experiences, contributions and identities of disabled colleagues across our community. Initiatives like ‘In Focus’ and our accessible events help create space for these voices to be seen and heard, while reinforcing our commitment to an inclusive University where everyone can thrive.”
