Open Meeting: How University rankings work (and what they mean for M2035)

20 Apr 2026

Join us on Thursday, 30 April for a discussion about our global rankings, their significance, and how our collective efforts can drive progress in line with our strategic goals

Colette Fagan

Last month we announced that we had strengthened our global academic reputation, showing improvements across multiple disciplines in the latest QS World University Rankings by subject.

But why are these rankings important and how does it align with the Manchester 2035 strategy?

Join Professor Colette Fagan, Vice-President for Research (pictured), and Alison Fairclough, Head of Business Intelligence on Thursday, 30 April, 11am – 12pm, for an opportunity to discuss our global rankings and find out more about why they are important and the role we can all play.

In this session you will:

  • have an update on our global ranking performance
  • understand the measures used for QS Subject Rankings
  • hear about Financial Times rankings used by AMBS
  • learn about priorities for improving our rankings, and actions you can take
  • have the chance to ask questions and share views on our rankings

Register to attend (online or in person):
