We are delighted to announce that nominations are now open for the University of Manchester’s Technical Excellence Awards 2026, until Friday 1 May.

These awards recognise and celebrate the exceptional contributions of our technical community across all three faculties. We encourage all staff (technical, academic, and professional services) to use this opportunity to recognise and champion the outstanding work of our technical staff by submitting nominations.

About the awards

This year’s awards are aligned to the four pillars of the Technician Commitment — Visibility, Recognition, Career Development and Sustainability. Each nomination will be considered within the pillar that best reflects the contribution, with two winners selected for each category. This flexible approach ensures we can recognise the full breadth of impactful work taking place across our technical community.

Each winner will receive £100 in Love2Shop vouchers.

How to nominate

Nominations should be submitted via the Technical Excellence Award Nomination Form.

When completing your nomination, please:

  • Select the pillar that best reflects the contribution
  • Provide a clear description of the impact and achievements of the individual or team (nominations may be submitted for either individuals or teams).
  • Suggest an appropriate type of contribution/area of impact (Don’t worry if you’re unsure - the judging panel will ensure each nomination is considered in the most suitable category)

Further information

  • Guidance to help with your submission, with further detail on each award pillar, the categories and nomination process.
  • The awards ceremony will take place on Wednesday 17 June, with President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Duncan Ivison delivering the opening address, alongside other speakers, activities and a summer BBQ. More information will follow.
