Report and Support - what colleagues and students are telling us
10 Apr 2026
Every year, we take a close look at what our community tells us through Report and Support - the confidential platform where colleagues and students can share concerns or seek help when something doesn’t feel right.
Our Annual Report for 2024–2025 gives us an honest picture of the issues people are experiencing, the types of behaviours being reported, and where we need to focus our efforts to improve safety, support and trust across our community.
This report matters because it helps us understand whether people feel able to speak up, whether our systems are working, and where we must do more. By learning from these insights, we can make our environment safer, fairer and more supportive for everyone.
Overview of reporting trends
Between 1 August 2024 and 31 July 2025, a total of 886 reports were submitted.
- 557 reports came from students - 7 fewer than in 2023/24
- 191 reports came from colleagues - 49 fewer than the previous year
- Additional reports were submitted by individuals from the wider University community and the general public.
In terms of proportionality:
- Student reporters represent 1.2% of the University’s total student population
- Colleague reporters account for 1.6% of the overall workforce
For both students and colleagues, the most frequently reported issues continued to relate to harassment, bullying and discrimination.
Additional context for colleagues
We recognise that insight and feedback relating to harassment, bullying and discrimination is also received through other routes beyond Report and Support. The People and EDI teams are working to bring these sources together to develop a more comprehensive, University wide understanding of trends and areas of concern.
Actions and priorities for 2025–2026
The report outlines several developments planned for the coming academic year.
For colleagues
- Quarterly reporting will begin to include narrative insight from colleague surveys, including new starter, one year and leaver feedback
- The number of Harassment Support Advisors will be increased to strengthen support routes for colleagues
- Continued work towards a restorative, just culture - prioritising early resolution, inclusive practice, and psychological safety. Several colleagues in People and EDI have already undertaken training that will be built upon in the coming year
For students
- Further work on demographic data breakdown and associated actions
- Collaboration with EDI colleagues to produce a calendar of safeguarding and EDI related events
- Development of a thematic lead in the Advice and Response Team focusing on male and LGBTQ+ victims
For both colleagues and students, we are also introducing two-way messaging for anonymous reports, allowing the Advice and Response Team to provide more tailored guidance and signposting.
Our ongoing commitment
We know there is more to do to build confidence in reporting among both students and colleagues. Our aim is for every member of our community to feel safe, supported and able to speak up when concerns arise.
By sharing reporting trends openly and proactively, we hope to contribute to a culture of transparency and safety, and to ensure our support systems continue to improve.
