Old Quad upgrade and improvement works over the coming weeks

26 Mar 2026

We’re making some improvements in and around the Old Quad to improve the landscaping, making the space more welcoming and well-connected. Most activity is light and will be completed in short phases.

From Monday, 30 March, works on the Old Quad will commence and are due to complete by mid-May. If there are any changes to this schedule due to weather, we will update you with new dates.

What’s happening

  • Lawns & planting: Low spots in the grass will be repaired and re‑seeded, with some areas enhanced for wildflowers and biodiversity.
  • Trees: Limited tree works will take place, with new trees planted to strengthen the long‑term health and character of the Quad.
  • Seating: A small number of wooden benches will be taken away briefly for workshop repairs; alternative seating will remain available.
  • IT Connectivity & safety: We’re upgrading Wi‑Fi coverage and updating parts of the CCTV system to support teaching, events and community safety.

What to expect

  • Access: Main footpaths will stay open. Some small areas will be fenced for safety and to help new planting to establish.
  • Noise & presence: Short, daytime activity from small teams and occasional equipment.
  • Grass protection: Please keep off fenced lawn areas until signage indicates they’re ready.

Why we’re doing this

  • To create healthier lawns that are more biodiverse and easier to maintain.
  • To plant and care for trees to help them thrive in the long term.
  • To improve Wi‑Fi and security coverage for everyone using the space.
