Stay sharp: refresh your phishing knowledge
13 Mar 2026
Spend a few moments refreshing your phishing knowledge and learning about new scams
Simple steps you can take:
- Refresh your phishing knowledge – complete or review our phishing awareness training. It takes around 15 minutes, and you can do it as many times as you like
- Commit to reporting suspicious emails by forwarding them as attachments to phishing@manchester.ac.uk
- Complete a digital clean-up: delete files and information you don’t need.
- Keep learning and sharing – here's a BBC news article about car park QR code risks.
- Why not set time aside in a team meeting to share your learning?
- Always ask: Was I expecting this message, and do I really know who it’s from?
Why it’s worth doing
A successful phishing attack won’t just affect one person – it can put sensitive information, personal data and valuable research at risk. The University raises awareness through training and simulations, as well as putting technical protections in place. However, cyber security is a shared responsibility, and we each need to play our part.
Remember - JDLR: If it Just Doesn’t Look Right, don’t click, don’t reply – report it.
