Supporting LGBT+ colleagues at work
25 Feb 2026
As part of LGBT+ History Month, access ongoing support and resources
Over the last few weeks for LGBT+ History Month, we’ve been celebrating and reflecting on the achievements, creativity and resilience of queer communities across history.
This time can also be used to remind ourselves that inclusion is something we should all strive for. At the university we want every colleague to feel safe, respected and able to be themselves at work.
We recognise there are times when people may need additional support around issues relating to bullying, harassment and discrimination, specifically concerning homophobia, biphobia and transphobia. We also know from our 2025 Your Voice Matters colleague survey, that across all areas, LGBT+ colleagues had generally lower scores than heterosexual colleagues.
Support/resources available
- Our Report and Support platform is a space to seek support from a trained harassment support adviser (LGBT+ specific advisors available), report something anonymously, and access a wealth of resources available, both within and external to the university. This includes links to local community groups, and more specific routes to report a hate crime.
- Our colleague network: BeeProud is a safe space for members to speak with each other about specific issues, or raise general concerns via the cochairs/EDI forum
- We have specific guidance for managers in Managers How To, on how to support LGBT+ colleagues
- All colleagues are encouraged to take part in our allyship training, to learn more about being an ally for the LGBT+ community, in the workplace and beyond.
