Research Integrity training and new refresher course

12 Feb 2026

“Responsible Research forms the very DNA of our institution,” says Associate Vice-President Mahesh Nirmalan – register now.

Our University is committed to fostering the highest standards of research integrity.

Responsible, ethical research is one of the four themes in our Research culture and environment framework and there is a wealth of support for our research community in this area.

This includes Research Integrity training, mandatory for any colleagues whose work involves research. Provided by Epigeum, there are eight core modules, three of which are mandatory and five which may be important depending on your role.

There is also a new refresher course; this takes 60 minutes to complete and can be taken by those who have already completed the core modules when they are due to retake the training (every three years).

Associate Vice-President (AVP) for Responsible Research Practice, Professor Mahesh Nirmalan said: “Responsible Research forms the very DNA of our institution.

“It is implemented through our core Commitment to Social Responsibility and ably supported by a robust and committed governance structure. The University is here to support colleagues to work responsibly and to help them mitigate any risks they may face as they continue their remarkable work to address global challenges.”

Vice-President for Research, Professor Colette Fagan agreed: “Responsible Research Practice is essential so that we here at Manchester, as across the sector, maintain public trust in our research. This is ever more important as we address misinformation and mistrust about science, the role of universities and academic freedom in the UK and beyond.”
