Your Voice Matters – Reflecting on the importance of mental health and regular wellbeing conversations
Time to Talk Day, Thursday, 5 February, is the UK’s biggest conversation about mental health, and we’re taking this opportunity to remind each other that every conversation about mental health - no matter how small - can make a difference.
Today and going forward, we encourage you to check in with someone: with a colleague, in a team setting or outside of work.
Extending our Starting Well in 2026 campaign focus, having a conversation about small actions you would like to focus on this year to support your mental health and wellbeing could be a great place to start.
Find out from colleagues in our short video on what small actions they will be committing to this year.
Supporting ongoing wellbeing conversations
In our last Your Voice Matters survey, you told us that colleagues could be having more regular conversations about wellbeing – 55 % of colleagues have regular conversations about wellbeing with their managers. We’ve listened and have taken action.
In response to colleague feedback, we have enhanced and further developed a mental health and wellbeing focused training offer for people managers.
We launched an introduction to stress management workshop, introduced a self-paced digital learning course ‘Mental Health and Wellbeing in the Workplace’ and offered further course dates for the skills and confidence building course ‘Managing with Wellbeing in Mind’.
People who have taken part in these courses have told us:
Digital learning course:
“… I learned how vital it is for managers and colleagues to notice changes early, have open and compassionate conversations, and signpost to professional help when needed… I also recognised the importance of setting healthy boundaries and looking after my own wellbeing so I can better support others.”
Stress Management Workshop:
Key learnings I took away from the introduction to stress management workshop…”Stress risk assessment process - I was not familiar with this and it was really helpful to have it outlined. Knowing there is a structured support process in place makes me feel much more confident in handling potential situations within my team.”
