Disruptions at Manchester Piccadilly announced for February 2026
22 Jan 2026
Most train services that run through Manchester Piccadilly will be affected by planned closure from Saturday, 14 February, until Sunday, 22 February, and then again on Sunday, 22 March (until 1pm).
During these dates, while the station is closed – full closure includes platforms 1 to 12, but 13 and 14 remain open for restricted services – for track and signalling upgrades, alternative arrangements vary by route. This includes cancellations, re-routing out of Manchester Victoria, and rail replacement busses from either Oxford Road, Victoria, or Piccadilly.
This may significantly affect your travel to campus, so we encourage staff and students to check their journeys in advance, allow extra time, and consider alternative routes or modes of travel.
Alternative transport methods
- Check the Manchester Piccadilly improvement works leaflet for more information
- Trams and buses will operate as usual
- Local roads may be busier than normal, so please allow for extra time when travelling (whether by car or bike).
- If you decide to cycle to work, our dedicated travel webpage has information and an interactive campus map on the facilities available to you on campus. Staff can also enjoy 100 free rental minutes on Starling Bank bikes to make the journey easier.
