Learn Mandarin to equip yourself with a new skill this winter

Do you teach or support Chinese students on a regular basis? Are you planning a trip to China in the new year?
Start 2026 by learning Mandarin at the Confucius Institute. Our Winter Term courses run between Monday, 12 January and Saturday, 28 March (with a reading week break during the week beginning 9 February).
We run lunchtime and evening beginner conversational classes that focus on teaching real-life communication. We also provide courses focusing on all four skills (reading, writing, listening and speaking) for the more committed learner. These courses run two weekday evenings or Saturday mornings (online), so require bigger time commitment.
We continue to offer reduced fees to University of Manchester staff and students.
