Getting to know Sarah Sharples, Vice-President and Dean of FSE

Starting on 22 September, Professor Sarah Sharples took up the role from Professor Martin Schröder.
Following the announcement of Professor Sarah Sharples Vice-President and Dean of the Faculty of Science and Engineering, we sat down with her to find out a bit more about her and what attracted her to the role.
We’ll be meeting Sarah again in a few weeks to talk more about her aspirations for the role.
Prior to taking up the role of Vice-President and Dean of the Faculty of Science and Engineering Sarah worked at the Department for Transport where she was Chief Scientific Adviser since 2021, seconded from the University of Nottingham.
She is an international expert in the field of human factors and its application to engineering problems and has also previously held the roles of Pro-Vice Chancellor for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and People (2018-2021) and Associate Pro-Vice Chancellor for Research and Knowledge Exchange (Engineering) (2015-2018) at the University of Nottingham.
What is the Vice-President and Dean of the Faculty of Science and Engineering responsible for?
The role, which is part of the University Executive plays a key role in helping deliver our strategy to 2035 and is responsible for providing strategic and academic leadership across our Faculty of Science and Engineering, shaping its research, teaching and social responsibility agenda.
