The University has successfully achieved a Gold Payroll Giving Quality Mark

06 Aug 2025

The Payroll Giving Quality Mark is a government-backed accreditation, rewarding organisations which fuel charities through payroll giving.

CAF Charities Aid Foundation

This unique and valued form of fundraising provides charities with regular income and helps them plan ahead effectively.

This gold award, presented to us by Charities Aid Foundation, recognises our efforts to grow employee engagement in our Purple Giving scheme over the last financial year through both digital and in-person promotion.

Below is a reminder of the two schemes available to colleagues, enabling you to support one or multiple charities directly through your salary.

Purple Pennies

Donate the pennies from your salary towards three charitable causes. Your salary is rounded down to the nearest pound, meaning you will never donate more than 99p a month.

Your pennies will help support three causes selected by university colleagues: Wood Street Mission, Re-write Cancer and Supporting Manchester Students.

It takes just 20 seconds to sign up, all you need is your Staff ID and National Insurance number.

Purple Pounds

The tax efficient way to donate to your favourite charity. Donations are taken from your salary before tax, meaning more money goes to your chosen cause.

Make a regular or one-off donation directly from your monthly pay to any UK registered charity or recognised good cause - including places of worship, schools and foodbanks.
