Summer Graduations underway: Celebrating our Class of 2025

07 Jul 2025

From Monday 7 July to Monday 21 July, campus will once again come to life with gowns, proud families – and more than a few selfies – as we welcome thousands of students and their guests for Summer Graduations 2025.

Summer Graduations

Graduation is a special moment – not just for students, but for everyone who’s supported them along the way. It marks the end of years of learning, perseverance and personal growth. For some, it’s the closing of a chapter; for others, the beginning of something new. But for everyone, it’s a day they’ll carry with them for a long time to come.

Friends, families and loved ones will be here too – many of them visiting our University for the very first time – and we know how much it means to them to feel welcomed, seen and part of the day.

So much of that warmth and care comes from you – the people who make it happen. Whether you’re part of the team running the ceremonies, helping behind the scenes, or simply giving directions with a smile, you help shape the experience in ways that really matter.

Professor April McMahon, Vice-President for Teaching, Learning and Students, says:  “Graduation is such a special time of year – not only for our students and their families, but for all of us at the University who’ve been part of their story. This summer will be my final graduation in this role, which makes it all the more meaningful. It’s a celebration of learning and of what’s possible when people are supported to thrive. I’m so grateful to every single colleague who helps bring these moments to life – thank you.”

Supporting our graduates and guests

Even if you’re not directly involved in the ceremonies, you may be asked for directions or information. The Graduation FAQs are a great place to find answers to common questions – including where to collect gowns, how to find Whitworth Hall, ceremony schedules, ticketing and accessibility details.

A more relaxed way to celebrate

This year, for the first time, we’re also offering a Relaxed Graduation Ceremony on Monday 21 July – a smaller, quieter and more flexible alternative to the traditional ceremony. It’s designed for students who may find large-scale events overwhelming, or who simply prefer something more low-key.

It’s another step towards making graduation more inclusive, accessible and personal – ensuring every student can celebrate in a way that feels right for them.

Thank you

Graduation is a true team effort, and we want to thank everyone involved – from the Graduation and Events teams, to Estates, Facilities, AV, Technical Services, academic and professional services colleagues, student volunteers and so many others.

Your time, care and commitment help make this a truly special time of year.
