Creative Manchester’s Solstice and Equinox Series returns to Jodrell Bank

The event, on Friday 20 June 2025, will feature an in-conversation event between Jazzie B and David Olusoga, followed by an exclusive DJ set in the scenic First Light Pavillion

Creative Manchester and Jodrell Bank are excited to announce a unique Solstice and Equinox event featuring the legendary Soul II Soul founder, Jazzie B, in conversation with acclaimed historian and filmmaker, Professor David Olusoga. The event will take place on Friday 20 June 2025, from 6:30pm to 10:00pm at Jodrell Bank.
Complimentary coach transport to and from Jodrell Bank will be available for a limited number of University of Manchester staff and students who have booked a ticket for the event. Staff and students can make use of this offer by filling out this form after purchasing an event ticket. Spaces are limited and allocated on a first come first served basis. This event is part of the two-day conference ‘Neither Factory Records nor Madchester: Rethinking Manchester’s Musical and Subcultural Histories’ with the School of Digital Arts, Manchester Metropolitan Museum, taking place from 19-20 June.
Trevor Beresford Romeo OBE, better known as Jazzie B, is a pioneering DJ, music producer, and entrepreneur. As the driving force behind Soul II Soul, Jazzie B has significantly influenced British music and culture, earning two Grammy Awards and an OBE for his contributions. This event will see Jazzie B discussing his illustrious career and cultural impact with Professor David Olusoga, a BAFTA-winning filmmaker and Professor of Public History at The University of Manchester, with Dr. Sophie Everest, Lecturer in Film Practice and Filmmaker, chairing the conversation.
The evening will also feature a special DJ set by Jazzie B, where he will spin classic tracks and contemporary hits that capture the essence of Soul II Soul.
Presented by Creative Manchester and Jodrell Bank Discovery Centre, this event is part of the ‘Solstice and Equinox’ series of events which brings innovative creative artists to The University of Manchester’s four Cultural Institutions. Each of our unique cultural institutions – the Whitworth, the John Rylands Research Institute and Library, Manchester Museum and Jodrell Bank Discovery Centre – focus on building civic, national and international partnerships to advance the social, environmental and individual wellbeing of our communities.
