Summer heating schedule update
21 May 2025
We have switched from our winter heating mode to our summer heating mode.

The University’s heating season typically runs from October until May. During the spring and autumn periods, the Estates & Facilities directorate closely monitors weather forecasts. This helps us to determine the optimal times to switch from the summer and winter heating modes, based on the average temperatures over any 14-day period.
We are now in our summer heating mode. This will not affect any of our hot water, which will still be supplied for things like washing, sinks, and showers.
What happens if temperatures drop during summer?
Unfortunately, due to the complex nature of our systems and summer maintenance requirements, we are unable to just switch the system back on if temperatures fall again. If you have any issues, please contact us through the Estates Helpdesk – a small number of heaters can be given out in emergencies.
We politely ask that you do not bring in your own heaters from home should temperatures drop, as these won’t be correctly tested and may be removed.
Supporting our sustainability strategy
Our heating strategy aims to provide a fair balance between user comfort and the environmental impact of excessive running.
Your support, co-operation, and understanding on this matter are much appreciated.
